Hello again peaches!

I’m back to continue my series on food we ate in Japan! Looking back through my photos I remembered all the strawberry treats we had the pleasure of trying and realised it would only be appropriate to dedicate a whole post to strawberries…

We ate a ton of strawberries while in Japan, many of which were bought for us from my partner’s family which we realised at some point, with horror, were not exactly cheap… (we worked out they were almost £1 per strawberry and came in a pack of 8… yikes)

Because of the time of year, the advertisements for strawberries and of course, sakura season, were absolutely everywhere, we couldn’t escape all of the pink and red displays. This was the most unavoidable in the Skytree shopping centre, which had a whole shop dedicated to strawberries… I’ve seen quite a lot of people online who devote their whole page to strawberries, and honestly, if I lived somewhere that was as invested in the fruit as Tokyo, I would too.

In all fairness, I don’t dispute the extortionate strawberry prices, they may have been pricey but it sure was worth it. They were genuinely the best strawberries I’ve ever eaten, (not that there’s much competition with the sad fruits we get in the uk), and just by looking at them you can tell each one had been expertly hand chosen to ensure quality. It was almost ridiculous haha.

Along with the strawberries themselves, it was also such a treat to see all of the strawberry snacks you could also get during this themed shopping boom, strawberry candies, drinks, cakes and even …curry?

Although it was a lot to take in during our first sleep deprived week in Tokyo, it was a super nice surprise and I have a lot of admiration to those who decorate the shops seasonally, it’s super cute and definitely made me want to buy every pink thing I saw…

One of our main missions for the Japan trip in general was to get our hands on one of my partner’s absolute favourite treats; strawberry shortcake. We have made many attempts to recreate this flawless dessert back at home, but have never quite made it work… I guess you really need to master the art that is Japanese patisserie baking…
