Cute themed cafes!
My reviews of the miffy cafe in Kyoto and Sanrio Puroland!
Hello peaches!
This wouldn’t be a series if I didn’t include all of the adorable character activities we managed to do while in Japan! I will be spreading this topic over two posts so make sure to stay tuned next week for even more Sanrio goodness!
When we went to Japan I kind of had a vague bucket list of places I’d like to visit when we did actually have the chance, but nothing was really set in stone, this included some cute activities suggested by a plethora of instagram travel accounts but I kind of had no real expectations for us to really visit any of these places. This, however, was not the case for my partner at all, he was determined to seek out most of the cute places we went and advocated for every silly purchase I made…
Miffy Bakery - Kyoto 🐰🍞🥖🥐
And there is no more perfect a place to start than the miffy bakery in Kyoto! My partner made it our mission to work this place into our schedule while we had a short stay in Kyoto, we ended up getting breakfast to go here before we hopped on the train to Nara.
As you can probably tell from the exterior, we definitely knew we were in the right place…
Everything, of course, had miffy all over it, but the shop itself still stuck to a vaguely traditional wooden vibe just like all the architecture in Kyoto. I can’t lie, I was slightly overwhelmed with choice for what to choose to eat as well as what souvenirs to buy, if I could go back now I’d probably buy twice as much haha.
As with all cute western characters (snoopy, Shaun the sheep, the moomins, pingu etc) Japan sure knows how to market merch in the best way possible (come on England ya gotta up your cute game!!!) they had everything from kitchenwares, plushies, beautifully packaged sweets to state of the art letter writing sets… it was so much to choose from haha.
I grabbed a little basket and went to town browsing all of the goodies. Literally one of the biggest things I miss about Japan is it’s ability to turn something as simple and sweet as a children’s book character and turn it into something literally anyone can enjoy, a sweet traditional style bakery that had more adults than children buying from the shelves is definitely the sort of place I’d love to visit more than once.
The baked goods were of course absolutely adorable, I wished that I could take one of everything back with me. It was all so tasteful even for character merch, if the bun or pastry itself wasn’t actually shaped like miffy it was branded as such and felt completely rustic and homemade despite the orderly-ness of the stock.
I grabbed a handful of pastries alongside a good bundle of miffy merch, including ‘children’s chopsticks’ which I was inevitably made fun of for buying alongside some sweet stationary and candies, (I will most likely be covering more when I review all the non edible goods I got from my Japan trip at a later date so stay tuned for that!!)
The pastries themselves were delicious, my personal favourite was the little cube which had a vanilla custard filling (my absolute favourite dessert flavour hehe) and I was so sad about eating miffy’s face 😭 overall a very wholesome experience and I’m super glad we managed to fit it into our schedule!!!
Here’s is also a quick video I took when back in England of the bread in a can I brought home for my brother hehe.
Sanrio Puroland - Character Buffet 🍱🐱🧃🍰
Before I even knew I was going to Japan, me and my partner agreed that the only theme park we’d definitely have on our list would be Sanrio Puroland. I had completely forgotten about this pact by the time we’d planned the trip and had travelled all the way out there, UNTIL meeting my partner’s aunt who, after noticing all the Sanrio charms on my phone, told us about her love for Hello Kitty. She mentioned Puroland and how she’d never been so of course I suggested we all go together!!! She loved this idea and we arranged the trip for after my partner and I had returned from Kyoto and Nara.
